BOBST builds sophisticated industrial equipment used in the packaging industry. Installing, operating, and maintaining these machines requires precise technical knowledge across multiple product generations.
As machines became more complex, BOBST needed a scalable way to help technicians consolidate knowledge, increase autonomy, and reduce dependence on centralized training or technical support.
MAGMA Mentor transformed technical documentation, manuals, procedures, videos, and expert knowledge into short adaptive learning sessions. Instead of asking technicians to search through documents, the system delivered targeted questions and explanations directly to each learner.
The learning experience was designed to fit into daily routines. Technicians could train in short sessions on mobile or web, while the platform adapted to their knowledge level and reinforced what they were most likely to forget.
The result was measurable progress. Among active learners, average mastery increased from 70% to 90% on the topics covered. The deployment generated more than 15,000 answers from 154 users, with a user rating of 4.6/5 and an NPS of 62.
The project also created a path to reduce travel-heavy training. For one technical course, BOBST estimated a potential annual saving of CHF 30,000 and a carbon reduction of 1,800 kg CO2e by replacing a one-day in-person course with MAGMA Mentor reinforcement.
The BOBST project shows how AI can support industrial training without replacing human expertise. Experts still validate the content. MAGMA Mentor makes that expertise easier to access, easier to reinforce, and easier to measure.
Challenge
BOBST technicians need to master complex machines, procedures, and diagnostics across a global installed base. Traditional in-person training is valuable, but costly to scale internationally. Documentation contains a large amount of expert knowledge, but it is not always easy for technicians to find, absorb, and retain what matters.
Solution
MAGMA Mentor ingested technical documentation and converted it into adaptive microlearning. Subject matter experts validated the generated content. Learners then received short personalized sessions designed around recall, reinforcement, and long-term consolidation.
